About the Mobile Monastery Experience

Mobile Monastery is a unique invitation to spend time with God in His creation. The intention is for you to rent this campervan, ideally solo or with one other person and spend a day or two taking it out in creation with the aim of spending the time focused with the Lord.

The ancient practice of silence and solitude is making a comeback, and for good reason. We need to make the choice to pull away from our normal, noisy lives to re-center our lives on God, make space to hear Him, and let Him settle our bodies, minds, and souls.

This does not necessarily mean sitting in the van in silent prayer the whole time. Use your time both to rest your body (a good nap goes a long way) and to do things that energize your spirit (like a solid hike). You are encouraged to invite God into your activities, practice staying present to Him throughout your days, and try to dial it back from your usual pace. Towards the end, you will be encouraged to think about how your experience will continue to shape you when you return home and what you can share with others from your experience. 

About the Van

The campervan is a 2023 Winnebago Solis. It’s 19.5ft long, front-wheel drive, and fully self-contained. It has a full kitchen with a two burner propane stove, a fridge, sink, 20 gallons of fresh water, and it’s stocked with all dishes, utensils, and coffee/tea supplies you will need. There is a table and plenty of seating. It has a full ‘wet bath’ and outside shower. Two beds with all bedding round out the setup, one being in the pop top, which has great views!

Don’t worry about learning how it all works- it’s simple and you’ll get a digital and physical guidebook which covers how to use all the systems and features of the van. When you arrive, you’ll also get a thorough walk-through.

About the Experience

When you rent the van, you will also get curated materials to support your retreat. Custom-made journals will guide you through your time, whether this is your first time away or your hundredth. Each journal contains ideas on how to start and end your time, selected poems, prayers, and Scriptures centered around your chosen location, along with plenty of space to write. A small collection of books will also be provided. After your phone has done it’s job of getting you to your destination, put it in the cell phone box to help your digital detox.

It is our prayer that these tools will support your retreat and guide you to a fresh encounter with Jesus. May you find rest for your body and hear Him speak to your heart in your time away.
